Choral Evensong has been in use in the Anglican Church (of which the Episcopal Church is part) for centuries. The Service consists of prayers, two readings from scripture, hymns and texts sung by the Choir. Unlike most other services today, most of Evensong is sung by the Choir alone, giving the congregation a chance for peaceful meditation and reflection. This particular Evensong will celebrate Candlemas, also known as The Presentation of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Temple. The celebration dates back to Rome in the seventh century, where it included a procession with candles and the singing of the Nunc dimittis (Simeon's prayer of blessing over Jesus at the Temple). This event is free to all. Donations are always appreciated.
